Fall capsule wardrobe: 10 items that never go out of style
Capsule wardrobe: 10 must-have items for fall/winter that never go out of style.
When it comes to fall fashion there sure are plenty of trends to follow each year, but I feel like this habit gets quite expensive during the colder months. I was strolling around the mall a couple of days ago and I realized that I am attracted by mostly the same kind of items just slightly different then what I have at home. So I went back, I analyzed my closet and compared notes with Instagram photos of the big fashion influencers and I feel like I have 10 items that are never going out of style, I end up wearing most and they are totally worth a splurge.
Here are 10 must-have items for your fall-winter capsule wardrobe:
1. Chelsea Boots
Chelsea boots are the perfect way of elevating your look in a subtle way. They are iconic and loved for their versatility and comfort, so if you don’t own a pair already, it’s time to invest in one. They’ve been around since Queen Victoria so they are not going anywhere, anytime soon. They are perfect for rainy days and they look amazing with jeans, skirts, dresses, jackets, coats…you name it!
2 and 3. Wool Coats
Many options to choose from in this category but if you ask me: an unstructured wool coat for those days when you feel like leaving with the blanked on and one masculine coat for those days when you feel like dressing up.
Unstructured or oversized wool coats are great for layering things underneath and they look always so stylish while keeping you warm and cozy. I am quite the freeze ball when it comes to cold weather so this might be one of my favorites. Here are some great choices:
Masculine wool coats come really in handy when you are going somewhere fancier. Whether it’s a night out, a restaurant gathering or theatre night, this type of coat looks amazing over dresses. It will keep you warm enough to your destination and will support the less casual vibe you are probably trying to achieve.
Here are some options:
4. Black suit jacket
Probably one of my most worn items in my entire closet, a simple black suit jacket makes anything looks better. It’s a great option for when you want to throw something on top and it’s very versatile.
Cardigans are for me the cozier version of suit jackets. They look chic, they keep you warm and there are plenty of options out there to fit your needs and style.
6. Fitted Turtleneck sweater
I love an all-black outfit for fall/winter and I feel like a turtle neck is a great addition to such outfit. You can layer other items on top or wear it on its own for a clean and classic look. A great addition to your capsule wardrobe.
7. White buttoned shirt
A crisp white shirt is a great addition to any season, but I feel like especially during the colder months you can get so many uses out of it. I would suggest going for high-quality material and paying a lot of attention when washing it. These kinds of items tend to lose their white crisp color if not taking care of.
8. Midi Skirt/Dress
This is a great opportunity to play with textures, prints and bring some life into the colder months. You can layer sweaters on top, wear them with boots or sneakers and accessorize them with belts. Dark floral prints are very trendy this year so you should be able to find your match easily.
9. Leather Belts
Especially one with a bigger buckle, adds a ton of style to a rather basic outfit. You can also add them on top of dresses, cardigans, jackets, sweaters…you name it! Opt for a simple design that can serve many purposes according to your wardrobe.
10. High heeled ankle boots
How high it’s really up to you and what you feel comfortable wearing. For me, just a bit of heel is enough to make me feel slightly taller and more put together. They elongate your legs and they are comfortable enough to not turn your day into a nightmare.
